Red and Green the Christmas colors:
One of the reasons we use green at Christmas time is because the use of evergreen plants like Holly which has been used for many years to decorate our homes.
Long time ago, in many countries people used plants and trees that remained green all year long and hanged them over doors and windows as they believed that evergreens would keep away ghosts, evil spirits, witches and illness.
The most popular evergreen plant is the Christmas tree. Families has it in their home and decorate it with colored electric lights, laces and shinny decorations which hang from the branches. Presents are placed underneath the tree. This is a family occasion and children love helping.
Why is red also a Christmas color? Santa Claus wears a red suit. The basis for the popular Character of Santa Claus was St Nicholas, a Christian bishop who provided for the poor and sick, this is why Santa Claus brings presents to the children.
Red is also the color of Holly berries, which it is said to represent the blood of Jesus when he died in the cross.
